A secure and privacy-preserving event reporting scheme for vehicular Ad Hoc networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
In Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), vehicles should report events to warn the drivers of unexpected hazards on the roads. While these reports can contribute to safer driving, VANETs suffer from various security threats; a major one is Sybil attacks. In these attacks, an individual attacker can pretend as several vehicles that report a false event. In this paper, we propose a secure event-reporting scheme that is resilient to Sybil attacks and preserves the privacy of drivers. Instead of using asymmetric key cryptography, we use symmetric key cryptography to decrease the computation overhead. We propose an efficient pseudonym generation technique. The vehicles receive a small number of long-term secrets to compute pseudonyms/keys to be used in reporting the events without leaking private information about the drivers. In addition, we propose a scheme to identify the vehicles that use their pool of pseudonyms to launch Sybil attacks without leaking private information to road side units (RSUs). We also study a strong adversary model assuming that attackers can share their pool of pseudonyms to launch colluding Sybil attacks. Our security analysis and simulation results demonstrate that our scheme can detect Sybil attackers effectively with low communication and computation overhead. A secure and efficient communication scheme with authenticated key establishment and privacy preserving for vehicular ad hoc networks
Privacy and security should be paid much more attention in secure vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). However, as far as we know, few researches on secure VANET protocols have addressed both the privacy issues and authenticated key establishment. Therefore, in this work, a lightweight authenticated key establishment scheme with privacy preservation to secure the communications between mobile ve...

Fog-based VANETs (Vehicular ad hoc networks) is a new paradigm of vehicular ad hoc networks with the advantages of both vehicular cloud and fog computing. Real-time navigation schemes based on fog-based VANETs can promote the scheme performance efficiently. In this paper, we propose a secure and privacy-preserving navigation scheme by using vehicular spatial crowdsourcing based on fog-based VAN...
متن کاملSPA: Self-certified PKC-based Privacy-preserving Authentication Protocol for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
As an important component of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), vehicular ad hoc networks can provide safer and more comfortable driving circumstance for the drivers. Pseudonyms certificate and group-oriented signature are two most widely adopted privacypreserving technique in VANET. However, the two methods exists many efficiency flaws which affect their application. To overcome the abo...
متن کاملPUCA: A pseudonym scheme with strong privacy guarantees for vehicular ad-hoc networks
Pseudonym certificates are the state-of-the-art approach for secure and privacy-friendly message authentication in vehicular ad-hoc networks. However, most of the proposed pseudonym schemes focus on privacy among participants. Privacy towards backend providers is usually (if at all) only protected by separation of responsibilities. The protection can be overridden, when the entities collaborate...
متن کاملCryptanalysis of A PAACP: A Portable Privacy- Preserving Authentication and Access Control Protocol in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are emerging to improve road safety and traffic management. Privacy and security are very important in VANETs. Existing authentication protocols to secure VANETs raise challenges such as certificate distribution and reduction of the strong reliance on tamper-proof devices. Recently, Yeh et al. proposed a portable privacy-preserving authentication and access co...
